FOOD SENSITIVITIES

More and more, we are discovering that FOOD SENSITIVITIES are to blame for a lot of the symptoms we used to believe are normal. Eczema, reflux or colic in babies, attention deficit or headaches in children; bloating, irritable bowels or acne in adults - all of these could be the result of our body's reaction to something in our diet, or even mom's diet while breastfeeding!

I partnered with Oxford Biomedical Technologies, Inc. to offer the patented Mediator Release Test (MRT), a test which

detects non-IgE mediated Food Sensitivities with 94.5% Sensitivity and 91.7% Specificity, to breastfeeding moms with Food Sensitive babies, moms with symptoms of a Food Sensitivity or other members of their family! Schedule your discovery call today to find out more!

FOOD SENSITIVITY

What is it?

A Food Sensitivity is a negative reaction to something in your diet which is different from a Food Allergy or a Food Intolerance. Anything can trigger a Food Sensitivity - a protein, additive or even a natural substance such as solanine found in potatoes, tomatoes and eggplants. Pretty much any food (not just ‘unhealthy’ foods or common allergens) can be reactive. In breastfed infants, the reaction can occur indirectly, through mom’s milk. Your baby may react to something in your diet, even if you tolerate it!  In fact, since baby’s immune system and gastrointestional microbiota are still forming, babies often experience food sensitivities within the first months or years of life. Food Sensitivities differ from and are more common among infants than Food Allergies or Food Intolerances. THE TEST

What is involved?

The MRT (Mediator Release Test) is a simple, non invasive blood test, which means it only involves a simple blood draw. The test itself will be performed with this blood sample - there is no risk to you or your baby! After you sign up for the test, you will receive a Specimen Kit and Order Form in the mail. Together, we will find an appropriate lab draw location near you. Take your baby (or whoever wants to get tested), along with the Specimen Kit and Order Form to the specified lab to get the blood drawn. Babies 5 months and older are usually old enough for lab draws. The Specimen Kit, along with the Order Form, will then be sent overnight to Oxford Laboratories in Florida, where the Mediator Release Test (MRT) will be performed. After about 7 business days, you will receive the results in the mail.

THE DIET

How is a Food Sensitivity managed?

The LEAP Dietary Management Program is a highly recommended part of your baby’s MRT Test. During this program, I will guide you through the Elimination diet of all moderately and highly reactive foods, including hidden sources and substances which may occur in various foods, food groups and medications. I will also give you tips, recipes and meal ideas to make sure you and your family are maintaining a balanced diet. After about 4 to 6  weeks on this Elimination diet, we can attempt to introduce untested foods to expand your options and slowly build baby’s tolerance. Video conference sessions and e-mail support by me is provided along the way!

YOUR CHOICE

With or without dietary management?

As a Registered Dietitian and certified LEAP therapist, I am happy to tell you, I can offer the MRT test itself at a discounted ‘provider’ rate. I pass this discount onto you because I want to make my LEAP Dietary Management program affordable. You have the option of booking your MRT test with dietary management (I will guide you through the Elimination Diet and Reintroduction), or receive the MRT test results and LEAP Report without further diet consultation. It’s your choice! If you have further questions or would like to book your MRT test, please contact me at marina@thelactationnutritionist.com.
